Parkvale was originally known as Parkvale Estates. It was developed in 1905 by the firm Michener Carscallen.

With its distinct boundaries including the old Canadian National Railway right-of-way on the west, Waskasoo Creek and the escarpment on the east, Ross Street on the north and the old Fairgrounds on the south, the area developed into a very unique and cohesive neighbourhood. Parkvale is now surrounded by a set of beautiful parks and its strong sense of community endures to this day. For more information on our history, check out Parkvale History.

Jessie Wright Barrett wrote about the fairgrounds in Parkvale in this short story called The Fair Grounds. She won first prize in a contest held at the fair in the mid-1970s.
